(AP Photo/Alex Brandon) The Obama family showed up at So Others Might Eat ’s soup kitchen on Monday, as part of their contribution to the MLK Day of Service. The Washington Times provides a little color : “We got a lot of struggle in this neighborhood,” a man shouted to Mr. Obama as he entered the facility, in a hardscrabble section of the city just north of Capitol Hill. Inside, the president, wearing an apron and khaki baseball cap, handed out pre-assembled lunch plates of chicken, potato salad, mixed vegetables and bread. “How are you, sir? God bless you,” Mr. Obama said to one of the men he served. It’s always good to see the Obamas showing up at

worthy local D.C. charities to help out. It was probably slightly less good, though, for the owners of the 15-20 cars we’ve been hearing got towed from the immediate area prior to the first family’s arrival. Two residents in the unit block of O Street NW tell DCist there were zero ‘no parking’ signs posted on their block the night before, but their cars still got towed to New York Ave. in the morning, in order to make room for the Secret Service. Towees were not supposed to be ticketed for their inconvenience, however, so if you happened to have been towed from the area around SOME on Monday and you also got a ticket, we’d highly recommend fighting that one.
